abstract = "A cidade de Altamira (PA) passou por transforma{\c{c}}{\~o}es
importantes em seu territ{\'o}rio desde a d{\'e}cada de 1970,
quando se acelerou a expans{\~a}o da fronteira agr{\'{\i}}cola
na Amaz{\^o}nia. Novas formas de ocupa{\c{c}}{\~a}o urbana
foram justapostas {\`a}s estruturas urbanas herdadas de
per{\'{\i}}odos anteriores, ao lado da expans{\~a}o da
{\'a}rea urbanizada. Na d{\'e}cada de 1970, a
popula{\c{c}}{\~a}o urbana cresceu a uma taxa m{\'e}dia de
16\% ao ano. No per{\'{\i}}odo subsequente, o ritmo de
crescimento diminuiu, chegando {\`a} m{\'e}dia de 3\% ao ano,
entre 2000 e 2010. Nos anos recentes, a constru{\c{c}}{\~a}o da
UHE Belo Monte pode ser associada a uma nova fase de
transforma{\c{c}}{\~o}es na cidade. Neste trabalho, a
expans{\~a}o da cidade de Altamira entre os anos de 2000 e 2010
foi avaliada com base na integra{\c{c}}{\~a}o de dados de
diversas fontes, incluindo-se imagens do sensor Thematic Mapper
(TM), ortofotos e dados coletados em campo. Foi elaborada
metodologia para classifica{\c{c}}{\~a}o da cobertura da terra
em imagens do sensor TM de 2000 e 2010, com a
utiliza{\c{c}}{\~a}o das t{\'e}cnicas de Modelos Lineares de
Mistura Espectral e
Vegeta{\c{c}}{\~a}o-Impermeabiliza{\c{c}}{\~a}o-Solo (V-I-S).
Diagramas triaxiais do modelo V-I-S foram utilizados para
caracterizar as transforma{\c{c}}{\~o}es dos bairros, indicando
que a expans{\~a}o urbana associou-se ao crescimento de 40\% de
{\'a}reas de solo ou impermeabilizadas em detrimento de
{\'a}reas de vegeta{\c{c}}{\~a}o. A integra{\c{c}}{\~a}o de
dados foi utilizada para analisar a estrutura da cidade e os
processos de transforma{\c{c}}{\~a}o. A estrutura {\'e}
composta por um centro principal e um subcentro de com{\'e}rcio e
servi{\c{c}}os populares, locais espec{\'{\i}}ficos de
desenvolvimento industrial e concentra{\c{c}}{\~a}o da classe de
alta renda; a expans{\~a}o urbana acompanha as vias principais de
acesso regional ao lado de um incipiente processo de
deslocamento/expans{\~a}o do centro para o setor sudoeste. Foram
inferidas din{\^a}micas associadas {\`a} mitiga{\c{c}}{\~a}o
dos impactos da UHE Belo Monte, decorrentes da
implanta{\c{c}}{\~a}o de novos bairros para a
popula{\c{c}}{\~a}o que ser{\'a} realocada e de parques nas
margens dos igarap{\'e}s Amb{\'e}, Altamira e Panelas. ABSTRACT:
The city of Altamira (PA) underwent major territorial changes
starting in the 1970s, with the acceleration of the agricultural
frontier expansion in the Brazilian Amazon. New forms of urban
occupation were juxtaposed to urban structures inherited from
previous periods at the same time as the city area expanded.
During the 1970s, urban population grew at a rate of 16\% per
year. In subsequent decades, the growth rate decreased, reaching
an average of 3\% per year between 2000 and 2010. In recent
years, the construction of the Belo Monte hydroelectric power
plant can be associated with new transformations in the city. In
this study, urban expansion in Altamira between 2000 and 2010 is
analyzed based on the integration of data from different sources,
including TM imagery, orthophotos and field data. A methodology
was developed for land cover classification of 2000 and 2010
images of TM sensor, using Linear Spectral Mixture Model and
Vegetation-Impervious surface-Soil Model (V-I-S) techniques.
Triaxial diagrams of V-I-S model were used to characterize change
at the district level, showing that urban expansion in the period
of study was associated with a 40\% increase in areas of soil or
imperviousness at the expense of vegetation cover. Data
integration was performed for the identification and analysis of
city structure and expansion. It was inferred that the urban
structure included one central district and one additional center
sheltering popular commerce and services, along with specific
settlement for industrial plants and high-income housing; urban
expansion took place mostly along regional roads and access
corridors, as the main center appeared to expand itself towards
the city southwest sector. Urban occupation along Amb{\'e},
Altamira, and Panelas creeks were subjected to flooding after Belo
Monte plant construction and resulted in the creation of new
neighborhoods for displaced dwellers, while new parks are planned
to be created in those areas.",
